Visiting TOKONAME FUR HOUSE from Tokyo

Day-trip guide from Tokyo to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE: Tokaido Shinkansen to Nagoya, transfer to the Meitetsu Tokoname Line, plus tips for combining the visit with Tokoname Pottery Town.

Tokyo to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE is a real day trip, but a clean one. You take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagoya, change to the Meitetsu Tokoname Line at Nagoya, and arrive at Tokoname station. From the station it is about a five-minute walk to the store. The total travel time is roughly two and a half hours each way before transfer buffers, which is why a morning start makes the round trip comfortable inside one day.

Route overview

From Tokyo station, board the Tokaido Shinkansen bound for Shin-Osaka or Hakata. Hikari and Nozomi services both stop at Nagoya; the ride takes about 1 hour 40 minutes on Nozomi. Reserved seats are recommended on weekends and holidays.

At Nagoya, follow signs for the Meitetsu lines (名鉄). Meitetsu Nagoya station is adjacent to JR Nagoya inside the same complex but on a separate platform. From there, take any train bound for Tokoname (常滑) or Chubu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港). The Meitetsu Tokoname Line ride is about 35 minutes.

What to expect at the Nagoya transfer

The Shinkansen-to-Meitetsu transfer at Nagoya is short on paper but the station is large. From the Shinkansen exit, signs in English point toward the Meitetsu platforms. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the walk and ticket purchase if it is your first time. If you have an IC card such as Suica or Pasmo, it works on Meitetsu without buying a separate ticket.

What to do beyond the store

Tokoname is best known for Tokoname-yaki pottery. The Tokoname Pottery Footpath (やきもの散歩道) starts a short walk from the station and winds through old kilns, chimneys and ceramic-lined alleys. Combining a visit to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE with an hour or two on the footpath turns the trip into a proper day out, not just a shop run.

If you are continuing south afterward, Chubu Centrair International Airport is only 5 to 10 minutes further on the same Meitetsu line, which is useful if you are flying out the next day.

Planning the visit

Send a short message before you come — date, approximate arrival time, and the categories you are interested in (fur, watches, Burberry trench, sunglasses). Hours are 10:00 to 20:00 daily but can shift on irregular days, so confirming ahead avoids a wasted Shinkansen ride. The store can be reached at 070-9313-5369 or via the contact form on this site.
