Visiting TOKONAME FUR HOUSE from Kyoto

Day-trip guide from Kyoto to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE: fastest route via Tokaido Shinkansen Kyoto to Nagoya, then the Meitetsu Tokoname Line, easily combined with the Tokoname Pottery Footpath.

Kyoto is one of the closest Shinkansen-connected cities to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE. The Tokaido Shinkansen from Kyoto to Nagoya is roughly 35 minutes, and the Meitetsu Tokoname Line from Nagoya to Tokoname adds about 35 minutes more. From Tokoname station the store is a five-minute walk. That makes the round trip a very practical day excursion if you are based in Kyoto for sightseeing.

Route overview

From Kyoto station, board the Tokaido Shinkansen bound for Tokyo. Nozomi and Hikari both stop at Nagoya; on Nozomi the ride is about 35 minutes. With reservations, you can leave Kyoto mid-morning and still have a full afternoon in Tokoname.

At Nagoya, follow signs for the Meitetsu lines (名鉄). Meitetsu Nagoya station is in the same building complex as JR Nagoya but on its own platform. Take any train bound for Tokoname (常滑) or Chubu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港). About 35 minutes later you arrive at Tokoname station.

What to expect at the Nagoya transfer

Nagoya station is large but well signposted. From the Shinkansen exit it is a short indoor walk to the Meitetsu platforms with English signage along the way. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the walk and ticket purchase the first time. ICOCA, Suica and Pasmo all work on Meitetsu, which makes a tap-in the fastest option.

What to do beyond the store

Tokoname is one of Japan's six ancient kiln towns and is known for Tokoname-yaki pottery. The Tokoname Pottery Footpath (やきもの散歩道) is a popular sightseeing route that begins a short walk from Tokoname station and weaves through old kilns, brick chimneys and ceramic-lined lanes. Pairing the visit to TOKONAME FUR HOUSE with an hour or two of pottery walking is a natural fit for a Kyoto-based traveler used to historic streetscapes.

Chubu Centrair International Airport sits 5 to 10 minutes further south on the same Meitetsu line, which is convenient if your itinerary continues by air.

Planning the visit

Send a short message before your trip with the date, approximate arrival time and the categories you are interested in (fur, watches, Burberry trench, sunglasses). The store is open 10:00 to 20:00 daily but irregular days happen, and confirming ahead avoids a wasted Shinkansen ride. The store can be reached at 070-9313-5369 or via the contact form on this site.
